On 20 November 2024, the whole country will witness a nationwide protest by taxi drivers, an event that aims to draw attention to a serious issue affecting everyone involved in the taxi sector. In Haskovo, over 200 taxi vehicles will join the protest, including those of Classic Taxi Haskovo, with the demonstration starting from a rally point on str. "Panorama" at 11:00.

Why are taxi drivers coming out to protest?

The main reason for the protest is the sharp and unregulated increase in the price of third party insurance, which is compulsory for every car. In less than 2-3 weeks it is expected to increase from BGN 300 to a shocking BGN 800-900 and in some places BGN 3200. This increase is putting serious financial pressure on taxi companies and drivers who are already operating in an environment of high fuel costs, maintenance and administration fees.

Taxi drivers are demanding greater transparency in pricing and adequate government regulation to prevent such drastic increases directly affecting the overall profitability of their work. Moreover, taxi drivers, as professionals with years of experience behind the wheel, are supposed to pay even lower prices for third party liability insurance. Instead, they are expected to be saddled with unreasonably high costs.

How will the protest in Haskovo go?

In Haskovo the protest will be a peaceful march organized by the taxi companies. More than 200 taxis will take part and the start will be given from str. "Panorama" at 11:00 on 20 November. Their main purpose is to express their dissatisfaction with the new conditions. The drivers are adamant that this is a peaceful protest, the aim of which is not to create chaos and disrupt citizens, but to draw attention to the critical issues affecting the industry and consumers.

Why will Classic Taxi also be taking part?

As one of the city's largest and longest-established taxi companies, Classic Taxi Haskovo is also directly affected by the predicted spike in insurance prices. The company operates a large fleet and serves a wide customer base, which puts it at the centre of this economic pressure. The new costs represent a significant challenge that could lead to higher prices for customers or a reduction in services.

"We are here to protect not only ourselves, but our customers. The price increase threatens the affordability of taxi services in Haskovo and across the country," company officials said.

Haskovo, as part of the nationwide protest in the country

The protest on 20.11. is not an isolated case for Haskovo - it is part of a national initiative covering all major cities in the country. Drivers from different regions will demonstrate unity and determination to fight for changes in regulations and pricing policies of insurance companies.

Classic Taxi stands alongside taxi drivers across the country to defend their right and that of their customers to fair prices and quality service. The protest on 20.11. is not only a fight for better conditions, but also a message of unity and solidarity in the sector.
